Accessibility and Visitor Information
Unfortunately, not all mounds at the park are accessible for wheelchairs at this time. For example, Mound B, which has stairs, doesn’t currently have a ramp. The mound nearest the museum might be more accessible, but I’d recommend reaching out to the park directly to confirm the details.
If accessing the mounds is a key part of your visit, it’s worth checking in with the staff to fully understand the options available. Even if your father or another visitor can’t climb the mounds, there’s still so much to see and experience. The Native American village, the museum with its incredible displays of Mississippian artifacts, and the stunning views of the park offer a rich and rewarding visit.
All visitors to the park should also be aware that there may be uneven terrain and rough paths throughout the site. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, and visitors should take caution when navigating these areas.
The park staff also offers special accommodations for individuals with disabilities, such as sign language interpreters or audio-guide devices. These services can be arranged by contacting the park prior to your visit.
Overall, while some areas of Moundville Archaeological Park may not be fully accessible at this time, there are still plenty of opportunities to explore
